A Bit of An Epiphany

For those of you who don’t know anything about A Song of Ice and Fire, this post is not for you. For those of you who are familiar, this is my ranting about where I am in Clash of Kings.

I’m nearly done with the second book now, and I’ve just read the chapter where Sansa has gotten her first period.

Firstly, let me say that this chapter shall forever be in my mind: “In Which Sansa Gets Good Advice From a Variety of Characters And Ignores it All Because She’s Naive and Childish”. Basically, this is what happens. The fool, whats-his-name-starts-with-a-D…. He tells her things. I don’t remember what her advice was exactly, but it amounted to “cool your heals and keep being dumb, because nobody worries about the dumb little girl they think is harmless.” Good advice (ALSO: I think his ‘friend’ is Petyr Baelish, please don’t spoil this for me if it is, but if so I’m freaking out for Sansa because he completely wants to rape her. Actually, he completely wants to be king and force Sansa to be his queen because he’s creeper extraordinaire). The Hound, one of my all-time favorite characters, tells her that life isn’t a story and that there are no ‘true knights’. THANK YOU HOUND. I’ve been wanting to bash her head into a wall and tell her this for ages (I mean, what?). Too bad she doesn’t believe you. Meh, she’s still a child. THEN when she gets her period (which isn’t as *ha* ‘magical’ as she expected so she freaks out and sets the BED ON FIRE to get rid of the blood), Cersei talks with her about all kinds of stuff and then tells her a couple of really good things: that a woman’s life is more messy than magical, and even the magical bits are rather messy; and that love is an illusion that is just as likely to kill as poison.

I wonder how sweet Jaime would feel about that?

SECONDLY: For all you fanfiction fans, this chapter (and others around it, but mostly this one), has prompted me to write a sequel to my A Song of Ice and Fire story, when I finish the one I’m on. I’ve got it mostly planned out, but it’s going to be long and I’ve barely written any of my story that I’ve already started on. The Hunger Games and Harry Potter take up most of my allotted fanfiction time. But this story is fast becoming a priority, and as I’m nearly done with my Sherlock story, I think some time will open itself up.

So keep your eyes peeled for that!
